The Green Mile by Frank Darabont

One movie a day

The Green Mile by Frank Darabont

1935. Paul is prison guard in the death row. A new inmate named John Coffey arrives. He was convicted for the rape and the killing of two little girls, yet he is quiet and gentle. He seems endowed with an extraordinary gift of healing.

Blessing

This is one of the most popular adaptations of Stephen King. Michael Clarke Duncan is masterful in his role as John Coffey. Many has criticized the film for not questioning the death penalty, but in my opinion this is exactly what it does in a subtle way. A man, because he is black and burly, has become the victim of a angry community. Coffey, who is nonetheless the embodiment of love and self-giving, was condemned by society.  With moments of sadness and joy skillfully distilled, this movie is very touching.
