Dredd

one movie a day

Dredd

why I loved it !

Because sometimes I need to put my mind at ease with some mindless violence and Dredd is certainly the movie for just that purpose. Dredd offers a very brutal and pessimistic view of the future; people live in mega cities where poverty and crime are rampant. Only judges, men and women trained for the only purpose of carrying out the law fight for justice by any means necessary even lethal.
If you want to see some amazing visuals as the junkies inhale some "slo-mo" while Judge Dredd is spraying bullets all over their soon to be corpses then that movie is a must see.

Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan

one movie a day

Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan

« It is a revolt? No sir, it is a revolution! »

Beware, beware! The social misfit is in town. In the opening minutes, we understand how music has an important place in the movie. Turn up the volume.

Laurence is one of those movies that returns your brain and makes you more open-minded. As the character himself says, he does not only consider the rights and utility of the unconventional persons but also those of normal people. Finally, what it is to be normal? Why is it a good thing? Why must we be normal to live in peace? Can love overcome everything? Is it possible when we lived in the shoes of another all our life?
If we have to see Laurence Anyways, it is because it does something in your heart. Like for Laurence, this is a rebirth.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

one movie a day

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

why I loved it !

I've seen plenty of westerns and this one sets itself apart from the lot by focusing on his characters and their strange relationships with each others. Robert Ford played by Casey Affleck wants to follow the trail of the great bandit Jesse James (Brad Pitt). He is an awkward guy that doesn't fit at all in this world of outlaws and this is where the heart of the movie is : Robert Ford is not looking to become a gangster he only wants the fame. Fame that without spoiling anything comes with a price.
The brilliant cinematography (usage of time lapses and blur effect) combined with the ubiquitous music from Nick Cave and Warren Ellis gives to the motion picture this ancient atmosphere as well as a sensation that time is fleeing by slower than it should.
