The Adjustment Bureau

one movie a day

The Adjustment Bureau

why I loved it !

Mostly because I see this movie as a metaphor of something that I truly believe is true in our today's society : whatever you'll want to do or be, if it's not in the norm most of the people will drive you back by judging you crazy, by not putting their trust in your ideas; The Adjustment Bureau is the society driving you back. This movie will lead you to go beyond the possibilities, beyond what you think is possible, it will challenge you and you will feel like a better human being afterwards.

Frankenweenie by Tim Burton

One movie a day

Frankenweenie by Tim Burton

After the sudden death of his beloved dog Sparky, Victor uses science to bring him back to life. He then try to hide the creature but Sparky escapes. The classmates of Victor and then the entire town will be involved in this adventure.

It comes with a price

After a few disappointing projects, we finally found the genius of Tim Burton again. This animated film, macabre but so poetic, is great art. The story is beautiffuly told. The black and white perfectly suited to action and at no time did we miss the color. Full of hidden references to horror movies, this animated film will thrill fans of the director and those of cinema.

The Avengers

The Avengers

why I loved it !

It's THE movie that didn't forget what the movies are for in the first place : pure entertainment for the masses. And this is what is delivered here over 120 minutes of pure joy. And it's not all about the action, director Joss Whedon didn't forget to flesh out his characters; yes they were already known from others Marvel adaptations but he gave them a reason to fight together and most importantly the Hulk, badly hurt since two not so good movies, has now his place as the god he truly is !

Dead Poets Society by Peter Weir

One movie a day

Dead Poets Society by Peter Weir

1959. Todd, a shy boy, is send to the prestigious and stern Welton Academy. There he met the professor Keating which encourages the rejection of conformity, the development of personality and freedom. Some students will then resurrect the Dead Poets Society, a group of free spirits.

Carpe Diem

Peter Weir will make you want to live your life to the fullest. His movie masterfully carried by a beautiful rendition of Williams encourages you not to let you dictate the rules of your life by others. This moving story, once will not hurt, resulted in the publication of a novel written by Nancy Kleinbaum. And for sure, it deserves it.

King of California

one movie a day

why I loved it !

A comedy about a dysfunctional family, a teenager more responsible than her mentally unstable father : this is a recipe for greatness ! Everything about this movie is lovely from the characters to the story itself. This quest found in a mental hospital's book, this story about a lost treasure hidden in a cave and an irresponsible dad who wants to make it up to her daughter by any means necessary.

The Green Mile by Frank Darabont

One movie a day

The Green Mile by Frank Darabont

1935. Paul is prison guard in the death row. A new inmate named John Coffey arrives. He was convicted for the rape and the killing of two little girls, yet he is quiet and gentle. He seems endowed with an extraordinary gift of healing.

Blessing

This is one of the most popular adaptations of Stephen King. Michael Clarke Duncan is masterful in his role as John Coffey. Many has criticized the film for not questioning the death penalty, but in my opinion this is exactly what it does in a subtle way. A man, because he is black and burly, has become the victim of a angry community. Coffey, who is nonetheless the embodiment of love and self-giving, was condemned by society.  With moments of sadness and joy skillfully distilled, this movie is very touching.

Angels & Demons

one movie a day

Angels & Demons

why I loved it !

Angels & Demons, a piece of art. The movie is fast but allows you some rest with breathtaking sequences of Rome and recreated scenery from the Vatican City. The narration helps a lot to understand it all : the introduction sequence explaining the process of electing a new pope is amazingly detailed and interesting. While the detective work is often rapidly expedited and often too obvious the plot is still enjoyable to follow since you want to know and uncover every ounce of knowledge the movie has to offer.
